Forest and moor hike in the Rodebach-Rodebeek Nature Park
The Rodebach-Rodebeek nature reserve, which borders the Teverner Heide to the north, defies its own turbulent history with its tranquillity and diversity. In fact, the idyllic landscape no longer shows its dark history. During the World Wars, the wetland, which was difficult to access, and the then disused canal bed of the Rodebach were repeatedly used for strategic warfare and protection against attacks. To this day, the stream marks the border between Germany and the Netherlands. A special highlight of the hike are the free-ranging Scottish Highland cattle. We encounter these beautiful animals on our hike for a reason. They eat shrub and tree shoots and thus avoid a possible overgrowth of the heath through a natural conservation process.
