The start of the first stage on the 3-river route is on Willibrordi cathedral on the Grote Markt in the heart of Wesel. Parallel to the river Lippe , you will travel east through the nature reserve Drevenacker dunes to the ancient village ("Treidelschifferdorf") Krudenburg, belonging to the  community of  Hünxe. You will pass the lock Hünxe and the Gartrop Castle , one of the most important assets  of the 17th century in that region , before you get into the Schermbecker district Gahlen . After a crossing of the Wesel Datteln channel and the river Lippe you will get to the center of Schermbeck. There are nearby numerous watermills and windmills to be discovered . The last part of this stage takes you through idyllic landscapes in the village Erle within the Nature Park  Hohe Mark Westmünsterland. The  village is famous for its approximately 1500 year old oak tree.
